Why Auditor Market Analysis Matters

Market Concentration Risk

High Big Four concentration (currently 78%) can limit competition, increase fees, and reduce the diversity of professional judgement applied to listed company audits.

Auditor Independence

Understanding auditor relationships helps investors assess independence. Long-standing auditor-client relationships may affect objectivity over time.

Rotation Requirements

NZX Listing Rules require audit partner rotation every 5 years. However, firm-level rotation is not mandated in New Zealand, unlike some overseas jurisdictions.

Fee Transparency

Audit fee disclosure varies across NZX issuers. Greater transparency helps investors evaluate whether audit quality is proportionate to the fees charged.
