Greater Wellington CRP - Major Projects (IRG)

The project is part of the Greater Wellington Regional Council‘s (GWRC) flood management programme. It includes:1. GWRC4-4, Ruamahanga Lower Wairarapa Valley Development Scheme – The scheme will reinstate a new stop bank at Pukio East, which has been built parallel to an existing stop bank compromised by river bank erosion.2. GWRC3-4, Te Kauru Upper Ruamahanga Flood Management Programme. The project will upgrade the Masterton River Road and landfill bank edge protection.

Greater Wellington CRP - Erosion Projects (IRG)

This project, GWRC1-4 erosion edge protection, will reinstate sections of eroded bank edge protection works required to maintain the rivers’ design alignment.

Ruamāhanga Aerial Hydrogeology Survey

To establish a data set of underground water resources in the Wairarapa and inform future water resource allocations, climate resilience mitigation and land use decision making.

Wellington Regional Erosion Control Initiative (WRECI) Expansion

GWRC - Ōtaki - Site 9 - Ōtaki Cliffs, Ōtaki Awa

To construct erosion protection along the True Left Bank of the Ōtaki Awa, protecting the base of the Ōtaki cliffs to limit further erosion in line with the recommendations of the Ōtaki Floodplain Management Plan.

GWRC - Site 15 - Upper Buffer Establishment

To fence each site and plant native and exotic fauna at the river edge and complete maintenance of fenced and planted areas.

GWRC - Site 2 - River Road, Masterton, Stage 3, Ruamāhanga Awa

To construct erosion protection along the True Right Bank of the Ruamāhanga Awa, limiting erosion, decreasing flood risk, and increasing resilience in line with the recommendations of the Te Kāuru Upper Ruamāhanga Floodplain Management Plan.

GWRC - Site 1 - River Road, Masterton Stage 2, Ruamāhanga Awa

To construct erosion protection along the True Right Bank of the Ruamāhanga Awa, limiting erosion, decreasing flood risk, and increasing resilience in line with the recommendations of the Te Kāuru Upper Ruamāhanga Floodplain Management Plan.

GWRC - Waiōhine - Site 5 - Fullers Bend, Waiōhine Awa

To construct erosion protection along the True Right Bank of the Waiōhine Awa at Fullers Bend, providing erosion migration, minimising avulsion risk, and increasing resilience in line with the recommendations of the Waiōhine Rakahanga River Plan.

GWRC - Site 10 - Tawaha Sill, Ruamāhanga Awa

To upgrade the current sill at the Tawaha Floodway which crosses State Highway 53 at Jenkins Dip, which currently does not provide a consistent spill from the river in flood conditions.

GWRC - Waingawa - Site 8 - Waingawa River Hood Aerodrome

To construct erosion protection along the True Left Bank of the Waingawa Awa, protecting the southern end of the Hood Aerodrome runway.

GWRC - Waipōua - Site 4 - Waipōua Industrial Site - Akura Road, Waipōua Awa

To construct erosion protection along the True Right Bank of the Waipōua Awa, providing erosion migration at the approach to the State Highway 2 Bridge and increasing resilience in line with the recommendations of the Te Kāuru Upper Ruamāhanga Floodplain Management Plan.

GWRC - Whakawhiriwhiri - Site 16 - Whakawhiriwhiri Stream - project re-scope, Whakawhiriwhiri Awa

To widen scope of planned resilience works addressing the low capacity of the stream to convey the ponded water, causing flooding to surrounding landowners.

GWRC - Waingawa - Site 7 - Masterton Raw Water Supply, Waingawa Awa

To construct erosion protection along the True Left Bank of the Waingawa Awa, protecting a water supply, controlling erosion, and increasing resilience in line with the recommendations of the Upper Waingawa Awa portion of the Te Kāuru Upper Ruamāhanga Floodplain Management Plan.

GWRC - Site 11 - Pukio East Stopbank

To remove the redundant stopbank, allowing the river more room which will reduce flooding.

GWRC - Site 6 - Awaroa Sill, Ruamāhanga Awa

To construct erosion protection along the True Right Bank of the Ruamāhanga Awa, including retreating the spillway sill and fences to limit further lateral movement of the active channel, limiting erosion, decreasing flood risk, and increasing resilience in line with the recommendations of the Te Kāuru Upper Ruamāhanga Floodplain Management Plan.

GWRC - Waingawa - Site 13 - South Masterton Stopbank, Waingawa Awa

To augment and reline the riverside face of the existing stopbank structure along the True Left Bank of the Waingawa Awa, reducing the flood risk to the southern section of Masterton in line with the recommendations of the Waingawa Awa portion of the Te Kāuru Upper Ruamāhanga Floodplain Management Plan.

GWRC - Site 14 - Homebush Wastewater Treatment Plant Resilience works

To lift the headwork above flood levels protecting the function of the wastewater treatment plant.

GWRC - Fish Passages - Site 12 - Fish Passage upgrades

To enhance fish passage by developing and rehabilitating structures that are crucial for flood protection, including adapting grade control structures, installing fish-friendly flap gates, replacing existing infrastructure with fish-friendly alternatives, and improving overall flood resilience.

GWRC - Waipōua - Site 3 - Waipōua SH2 bridge Left bank protection, Waipōua Awa

To construct erosion protection along the True Left Bank of the Waipōua Awa, providing erosion migration at the approach to the State Highway 2 Bridge and increasing resilience in line with the recommendations of the Te Kāuru Upper Ruamāhanga Floodplain Management Plan.
