The project is the development of a $40 million Mussel Spat Hatchery near Te Kaha, being developed by Te Whānau-ā-Apanui via Te Huata International Ltd Partnership (THI). The project is well supported by Callahan, Cawthron and MPI and is consistent with New Zealand’s aquaculture strategy. In addition, this will create approximately 17 FTE’s in one of New Zealand’s most economically supressed areas and support the Crown’s investment in the mussel industry in Ōpōtiki.
